The Best Dividend Stocks In The Utility Sector

Utility stocks may not always make most exciting investments, but during a questionable market, this industry can be a great choice for investors seeking a more defensive approach. When the market goes south, investors flock to the safest industries. That is, the industries that are less impacted by a weak economy. The stocks of most utility companies pay higher dividends than most other stocks. As with the consumer staples and healthcare sectors, utility stocks also provide diversification... Read more

My Third Quarter Portfolio Review - Focus On Dividend Growth And Quality

I am pleased to present my 3rd Quarter 2016 portfolio review. Portfolio reviews are conducted each quarter per our business plan and help further clarify our approach to income investing. This review should be read as representing an approach that best matches our personal risk tolerance. As I continue to highlight actions taken, keep in mind that all my holdings are in non-taxable accounts. My portfolio finished the quarter with 48 holdings yielding roughly 4.2% at today's cost.... My K.I.S.S. Dividend Portfolio: 3rd Quarter 2016 Update

I always try to start each of my updates with a theme of what I have learned while managing my portfolio this past quarter. But this quarter has simply reiterated to me the same thing I pointed out in my last update, the benefits of patience. So I will start this article with the same introduction I started my previous one. I hope you don't mind. In my opinion, one of the most important qualities a person must have to be a successful dividend growth investor is patience. DGI is not a... Read more

Can These Utility Companies Power Our Dividend Growth Portfolio?

My wife and I don't currently own any utility companies in our dividend growth portfolio. As we plan on living off of dividend income in retirement and these companies often offer robust yields, this is an issue. Whether the economy is humming along or is in the middle of a recession, people are probably going to do everything they can to pay the electric and gas bill. For this reason, I would like to add a utility company to our portfolio. Here are my guidelines for valuing and purchasing... Read more

Investing should be done with peace of mind. Have a plan and use it. My plan is having a WTB List. With the recent volatility of the market, anxiety has increased in many investor's minds. It is my crutch and I use it often. I have found stocks to buy and have done so, along with trimming and... Read more

85-Stock Portfolio Review By Dividend Payment Month Groups, CCC Status, Moats And New Purchases

Dividend income generated by my portfolio continues to grow along with its value. Dividend yield was 4.04% last year, but with the portfolio value up this year by 16.9% in the first 6 months and holding pretty steady the dividend yield is now only 3.88%. The Q1 to Q2 increase in dividends was 6.3%. I am projecting another 10% increase in dividends from there to the end of this year. For me it's mostly all about dividends and reliable increasing income. Capital gain is also nice but... Read more
