Articles featuring Chevron (CVX):

Dividends And Compounding Returns

I have written two recent articles on fascinating, recently published academic research. In my article "Why Many Investors Fail", I described research that showed that the equity risk premium in the United States has been historically attributable to only a small number of stocks whose outstanding performance skewed average returns higher. In "Dividends and Stock Crashes," I described research that showed that dividend-paying stocks are less prone to large stock price... Read more

Yes, You Can Still Build A 4% Yielding Portfolio In Today's Market, Part II

Last April I presented a mock portfolio with a 4% yield to show that an income portfolio could still be built in an expensive market. Nearly a year later, the market continues to trade near all-time highs, leaving some investors once again wondering if the time is right to put more cash into investments. This article will take a look back at those picks to see what they are worth today, and also see how much income they are producing. It will also present a new dividend growth portfolio... Read more

Thanks For The 8% Raise, Dividend Growth 50!

The month just completed was quite an eventful one for yours truly. In a March 14 article, I told about my daughter Katie getting engaged, with her boyfriend popping the question while they were scuba diving in the waters off of Hawaii. Incredibly, 10 days later, my son Ben proposed to his girlfriend ... and she said yes. The incredible part wasn't that Sammi said yes - Ben, after all, is a heck of a catch (and vice versa)! It was that two siblings announced two engagements less... Read more

March Portfolio Update: Our Dividend Growth Portfolio Powers Higher

I love the month of March. March is usually the month where the weather starts to improve. The grass is turning green. The sun shines more and snow and cold weather are usually in the rearview mirror. As a sports fan, there's spring training baseball and the NCAA basketball tournament. Professional hockey and basketball leagues are heading towards the playoffs. Being a teacher, spring break is less than a week away. All in all, this is one of my favorite times of the year. This time around,... Read more

10 High-Yield Dividend Aristocrats Worth Considering

If you like big, safe, growing dividend payments then you might want to consider the dividend aristocrats. To be included in S&P's "High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Index" a company must have increased its dividend every year for at least 20 years in a row. Currently, there are only 108 companies in the ETF (NYSEARCA: SDY) that tracks this index, and we have listed all of them below. Our list also includes a variety of financial information about each company. And finally, we... Read more

My 4% Dividend Yield Portfolio: Q1'17 Summary And Short-Term Expectations

The first quarter of 2017 is almost over and it is time to assess the progress of my portfolio. The portfolio, which was introduced here back in 2014, was aimed to deliver a 4% yearly dividend that was constantly growing. The portfolio currently includes a total of 23 holdings: Avista Corp. (NYSE: AVA), BHP Billiton (NYSE: BBL), Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBRL), Care Capital Properties, Inc. (NYSE: CCP), Cummins Inc.( CMI), CyrusOne ( CONE), Chevron (NYSE: CVX),... Chevron: The Dividend Yield Can Get Very Attractive

Dividend income investors are always looking to lock in attractive yields in reliable companies like Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX). While CVX currently offers a dividend yield of 4%, its chart structure is shaping up in such a way that investors might get another opportunity to grab around 10% higher yield. This article will discuss the price action of the stock. At the outset, I want to say that this is not a bearish article, but I do recommend waiting for lower levels. This is simply... Read more

Tending The Dividend Garden - March Update

As I wrote previously in Tending the Dividend Garden - January Update I like to think of building my stock portfolio the same way I would think about planting my garden. I see a lot of similarities between gardening and investing in dividend paying stocks. They both require a lot of work and patience up front, but when done correctly, can provide a great return. I like the idea of grouping stocks based on their yield and dividend growth rate (DGR) into comparable crops from my garden. As a... Read more

Chevron: This 4% Yielder Looks Promising

Chevron (NYSE: CVX) isn't exactly known for generating strong levels of cash flows. In fact, the company has been burning cash in the downturn. But the San Ramon, California-based oil producer still appears to be a promising pick for dividend investors. In the uncertain oil price environment, energy investors, particularly dividend investors, have flocked to companies that have demonstrated an ability to generate strong levels of cash flows in the downturn. That is because,... Read more
