Thanks For The 8% Raise, Dividend Growth 50!

The month just completed was quite an eventful one for yours truly. In a March 14 article, I told about my daughter Katie getting engaged, with her boyfriend popping the question while they were scuba diving in the waters off of Hawaii. Incredibly, 10 days later, my son Ben proposed to his girlfriend ... and she said yes. The incredible part wasn't that Sammi said yes - Ben, after all, is a heck of a catch (and vice versa)! It was that two siblings announced two engagements less... Read more

My Favorite Millennial's Dividend Growth Portfolio

Twelve months ago, I introduced Seeking Alpha readers to my daughter, Katie. She was 29, her "long-time guy" was her loyal dog, Baxter, and she was just starting to build her portfolio of dividend-growing companies. One year later, Katie is officially a 30-something. She has a new job she really likes in the mortgage industry. Her portfolio has grown nicely and now includes a non-dividend stock, Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG). And Baxter is still around... but he now... Read more

Dividend Streaks In Danger: Freezin' Season Under Way

In compiling the Dividend Champions list (here) I get to see which companies are nearing the anniversaries of their previous dividend increases. Most of these firms raise their payout about the same time every year, but some companies go longer before boosting their dividends, and this can raise concerns about their streaks of increases. Other streaks end because of unsustainable yields (or payout ratios) or because the companies are acquired by other firms. Note that all references to... Read more

Dividend Contenders: 26 Increases Expected By The End Of October

In compiling the Dividend Champions list (found here) I get to see which companies are nearing the anniversaries of their previous dividend increases. Since most of these firms raise their payout about the same time every year, I can say with some confidence that they are likely to do so again. I have separated the Champions (25 or more years of higher dividends), Contenders (10-24 years), and Challengers (5-9 years) into distinct groupings, so please look for the other articles, which I hope... These Are The Only Dividend Champions And Contenders That Appear Attractively Valued

Introduction As the stock market continues its relentless advance, attractive valuations are getting harder and harder to find. This is especially true for the highest quality blue-chip dividend growth stocks. Perhaps more importantly, in addition to the market's relentless advance, there has also been a clear flight to quality - especially with dividend growth stocks. Therefore, the vast majority of the best-of-breed blue-chip dividend paying stocks are currently trading at elevated... Read more

The Dividend Growth 50 Trumps The Market By Nearly 300%

Had you told me on June 30, 2015, that the Dividend Growth 50 would outperform the market over the next 12 months, I might have responded, "I hope so." Had you told me the DG50 would practically quadruple the total return of the S&P 500 Index, I probably would have laughed in your face. I mean, what other silly notion could you have advanced back then? The bombastic reality-show host who had just announced his candidacy for president actually would emerge as the presumptive... Are There Any Deals Among The Dividend Contenders? Part II

INTRODUCTION This is part two of my series in evaluating the fair value of the members of the dividend contenders from David Fish's Dividend Champion, Challenger and Contender list (available here). I have previously evaluated the champions (here) and several common dividend stocks (here). There are a total of 247 dividend contenders. This article covers the 123 remaining and bottom half of the dividend contenders. For those of you who are new to this series, the valuation methods are... Read more

Selling Dividend Growth Stocks: Reluctantly Ending 'Forever' Marriages

When I buy stock in a company, my intention is to hold those shares for years and years -- ideally forever. Furthermore, as a Dividend Growth Investing practitioner and a "serial dripper," I like to increase my stake in companies through reinvesting dividends. I also frequently use outside funds to add to holdings in both tax-advantaged and taxable accounts. After all, I researched these businesses thoroughly and felt strongly enough about their prospects to partner with them in... Read more
